Term 1, Week 10
What an Incredible Term!
As we approach the end of Term 1, it’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the incredible term we've had so far.
Renovations Update – Stage 1 (1) Progress
We’re excited to share that our renovations are moving forward, and we’re now approaching the final third of Stage 1. Safety remains our top priority, and to keep things on track, the builders will be working throughout the holiday period. During this time, they will be tackling the noisier, messier tasks that require the most equipment. We appreciate your patience as we continue to make progress!
Community Events – We were delighted to celebrate Pancake Tuesday, Harmony Day, Carnevale and the Caritas Carnival, with our students and their families and we really appreciate these events bringing our community closer together.
Catholic Identity – Highlights include the Commissioning Mass with St Gabriel’s staff, the Beginning of Year Mass, Year 6 Leadership Day with our OLSH sister schools, Ash Wednesday Mass and liturgy, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Congratulations to our candidates Archer, Lee, and Victoria.
Of course, these are just a few of the many fabulous learning and well-being experiences every child has enjoyed throughout this term. Looking ahead to next term, we are excited to build on these experiences and add even more exciting events. Several classes have already planned excursions. If you would like to join and help with these excursions, please visit the front desk or speak to your child’s teacher to receive a volunteer pack, as we need these completed before you can assist. Thank you for being a part of our wonderful community!

Child Safeguarding - Signing In/Signing out Procedures
To ensure a safe environment for everyone during the school day, a reminder, if a child arrives after the school bell or throughout the day they must be signed in/out through the Office. Parents are asked to farewell their child in the Office or wait at the Office if leaving early. Thank you for your assistance in this important matter.
School Uniform
As we enter into the colder weather and preparing for Term 2 I would like to remind everyone about the importance of your child wearing the proper school uniform. This plays an important part in promoting a sense of identity, belonging and connectedness, and research also shows this is connected to the engagement of students in school with learning and wellbeing.
To keep the cost down and support our families, at St Brigid’s we only have one uniform ie not a formal and sports uniform. Our uniform enables active participation, maintains a clear dress standard and creates a sense of personal pride in being a student at St Brigid’s. Therefore, we ask that:
Full uniform must always be worn unless a special school occasion. If your child is not in full uniform, please write or discuss reason with the class teacher, or with the leadership team who are on duty.
Shoes including sneakers must be predominately black or white. Due to our oval playing surface, football boots and are not permitted.
Long hair (longer than shoulder must be tied back with scrunchies/ribbons/headbands in school colours.
Cultural or religious headwear should preferably be navy.
Wishing everyone a happy and Holy Easter and a rejuvenating holiday.

Project Compassion
Irene lives in the Kongolo Region in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and faced immense challenges after losing her father to war and raising her children in poverty. With support from Caritas Australia, Irene received vocational training in sewing and farming and can now support her whole family.
Caritas Carnival
A huge THANK YOU to everyone for your amazing support for our Social Justice Action for Term 1, which was raising awareness and raising funds for Project Compassion.
During this term in Heart Learning, we learnt all about Project Compassion and where the funds go. We also learnt about this year’s focal people, Irene and Lam. The year 6’s then used these stories to create the activities for the Caritas Carnival for the rest of the school.
A huge thank you to Mrs DeTullio and all the year 6’s for the preparation before the event and the hard work and effort on the day. Well done and thank you.
Holy Week: A Journey of Faith
Holy Week is the most sacred time in the Catholic calendar. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, 13th April, and ends on Easter Sunday, 20th April. This week commemorates the final days of Jesus Christ's life, his crucifixion, and resurrection.
Palm Sunday marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where people welcomed him with palm branches. This event signifies the start of Holy Week and is celebrated with processions and the blessing of palms.
The Last Supper, observed on Holy Thursday, is when Jesus shared his final meal with his disciples. During this meal, he instituted the Eucharist, symbolizing his body and blood, and washed the disciples' feet, teaching humility and service. Jesus then prays in the Garden of Gethsemane and is arrested.
Good Friday is a solemn day during Holy Week that commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ. Stations of the Cross is a devotional practice that reflects on the 14 events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion. It is a powerful way to meditate on his suffering and sacrifice.
Holy Saturday - Jesus is buried in the tomb.
Easter Sunday celebrates Jesus' resurrection from the dead, symbolizing hope, renewal, and the victory of life over death. It is a joyous day marked by special church services and festive celebrations.
Holy Week invites us to reflect deeply on our faith and the profound love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

As the final week of Term 1 approached, students at our school were eagerly preparing for the highly anticipated Carnevale celebration. The whole school had spent the term immersing themselves in the history and traditions of this iconic Italian festival. Carnevale is known for its colourful parades, intricate masks, and lively festivities – it is a time to embrace freedom, fun, and creativity before the more solemn season of Lent begins.
Students have spent their Italian lessons designing and creating masks for the event. Some students chose to use feathers, gems and glitter to decorate their masks while others focussed on bold colours and patterns. Parents and teachers were amazed by the students' creativity and attention to detail. It was clear that every child had poured their heart into their mask-making.
The Carnevale Parade was an opportunity for students to display their hard work and creativity. They proudly wore their hand-made masks parading around our courtyard to the sounds of Italian folk music. Everyone seemed to embrace the spirit of the festival with the laughter, colour and joy that Carnevale represents.
As a final treat to mark the end of the Carnevale celebration, students were delighted with a tasting of traditional Italian gelato! This iconic Italian dessert was the perfect way to finish off the festivities.
Students had gained a deeper understanding of Italian culture and history, and, most importantly, they had experienced the joy of coming together as a school community to celebrate culture and tradition.

Playgroup
This week we went on our Beach Playgroup Excursion to Webb Beach. We joined with 6 other community hubs and had the morning playing with sand, water, seaweed, and shells! It was a beautiful day weather wise, and the beach was lovely – we could’ve stayed out there all day!
So nice to see the kids excited about playing in nature! My favourite moment was seeing 2 children taking it in turns to put seaweed on eachother’s head!
Thank you for everyone who came along – keep an ear out for our next bush playgroup! We will have a few more this year to keep encouraging families to be out in nature, and to showcase some of the brilliant nature spaces we have in South Australia!
Our last playgroup will be Monday 7th of April (Week 11). We will then have 3 weeks break and return Monday 5th of May (week 2).
Playgroups run on Mondays and Wednesdays 9-11am for children 0-5years with their families.
English classes
Our last English class for this term will be 10th of April. English classes will return Week 1 Term 2, 1st of May.
I hope you have a wonderful school holiday break, and we will see you next Term!
Yours in Love, Peace, and Learning

This school term our OSHC service will finish on 11th of April 2025. We have thoroughly enjoyed providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for your children, and we are grateful for your continued trust and partnership. Wishing you all a happy Easter and a wonderful holiday.
OSHC NEWS
In week 9 in OSHC, we focused on nurturing the children's mental and emotional wellbeing. We explored the idea of identifying the people in their lives who make them feel safe and supported. By doing this, the children can recognize their ‘safe people’—those they can turn to when feeling overwhelmed, sad, or even to celebrate their joys.
For the activity, the children had the opportunity to design and decorate their very own cloud, adding the names or images of 1-3 people they consider their ‘safe people’ or person. These clouds are now proudly displayed in our OSHC room, serving as a reminder of the supportive people in their lives. It was truly heart-warming to see the special connections the children have with those around them. The display is a visual representation of the care and comfort they receive, and a reminder that they have people to lean on, no matter what they're going through.
In week 10 in OSHC, we shifted our focus to the physical wellbeing of the children, aiming to encourage more movement and physical engagement. Through a variety of activities, the children were motivated to be active both inside the OSHC and in our outdoor play area. Throughout the week, they enjoyed games like Red Rover, tennis, jumping over hurdles, and playground races. It was incredibly exciting to watch the children take initiative and independently organize games like Red Rover, fostering not only physical activity but also teamwork and leadership. This hands-on approach truly supported their physical wellbeing while also promoting their confidence and creativity.
Please take note of the following important details:
Pupil Free Day: We would like to inform you that Monday, April 28, 2025, OSHC will be open for Pupil free day. We are pleased to offer services during regular operating hours 6:30am-6:15pm. The theme of this will be a teddy bears picnic and your child is encouraged to come wearing pyjamas and bringing their favourite teddy bear.

Payment of fees is required for the service to provide the best possible care and facilities for your child(ren). Fees can be paid in the front office or via bank transfer. If you make a bank transfer, please put OSHC and the child's name in the description.
Pick-Up Time: Please ensure your child is picked up by 6:15pm or late fees will apply.
